Introduction
Installation modes
Objecteering can be installed in two different modes:
·
stand alone mode. This mode is designed for individual users
working alone, as well as for users working on laptops. It runs an independent installation of
Objecteering for use on a single workstation. This installation mode is available on Windows platforms only.
· client-server mode (on Windows or on Linux). This mode is used to install Objecteering on a server, before deploying it on a number of client workstations. All the clients using the server will have the same configuration, and will be able to access the same server resources.
Stand alone installation mode
The stand alone installation mode is perfect for users working alone, as all Objecteering resources are stored directly on the local workstation, meaning that there is no need to connect to a server. This makes it ideal for people on the move, who are not necessarily connected to a server.
The stand alone installation setup is run directly from the Objecteering CD-Rom.
During this stand alone installation procedure, your Objecteering license file is not requested. You will have to select this license file when Objecteering is run for the first time. The Objecteering license file used by a stand alone installation is node-locked, meaning that Objecteering can only be used on one specific machine.
Only one user can connect to a given Objecteering project at any time.
Client-server installation
The client-server installation mode facilitates the homogenous configuration of associated client workstations. All clients connected to an Objecteering server have access to the same Objecteering resources located on this server, thereby ensuring that everyone working on a given project is using the same version of the various available resources.
For example, all the MDA components (also called MDACs) used in a project by the different members of a team (in other words, all the different clients) are located in the "mdastore" directory shared on the server. This favors the use of the same version of each MDAC by all developers, thereby increasing efficiency and reducing the risk of version-related conflicts.
Installation of the server is run directly from the Objecteering CD-Rom. During this server installation procedure, your Objecteering license file will be requested and MUST be provided.
Once the server has been correctly deployed and configured, each client is installed from the client workstation, by connecting to the server and running the largely preconfigured set-up procedure. During this set-up procedure, no specific Objecteering client license file will be requested, as it is the server that provides the licenses, thereby further simplifying the deployment of Objecteering on client workstations.
After installation of Objecteering on the server, and its deployment on the associated client workstations, Objecteering is available from any client workstation, within the limits of available floating licenses.
A client workstation can only run when connected to the associated Objecteering server. As a result, we do not recommend the client server installation mode for laptops.
