Setting graphic properties in a UML 2 diagram

Changing colors and fonts

If you want to define a specific background or foreground color or font for an element in a UML 2 diagram, the  "Graphic options" command is used.

Defining colors and font for a class

Steps:

1.      Right-click on the element whose colors and font you want to customize to open the context menu.

2.      Run the  "Graphic options" command.  The "Customize options" window then appears.

3.      In this window, select a foreground color, a background color and a font.  The  button on the right of each selection field opens the "Color chooser" or "Font chooser" window, in which you can browse available colors and fonts.

4.      Click on "OK" to confirm.

Customizing graphic properties

Objecteering 6.1 provides you with a means of customizing the graphic appearance of every model element in every UML 2 diagram, at both project level and diagram level.

For example, you can decide to graphically represent classes in class diagrams with a gray background and a red foreground and with their tagged values automatically displayed.

To customize your graphic representation options, simply carry out the following operations:

The "Edit graphic options" window

Key:

1.      This zone presents all the diagrams and model elements that it is possible to create in Objecteering.  This is where you select the diagram type(s) and element(s) whose graphic representation you want to customize.

2.      This zone provides information on the application of the graphic options you are going to define.  You can see which elements will be impacted and in which types of diagram.

3.      This button is used to access the on-line help.

4.      This zone lists all the properties that can be graphically customized.  The foreground and background color and font of all elements can be defined (click respectively on the  and  icons to browse available colors and fonts), as well as the graphic representation of such properties as tagged value display and feature visibility.  The properties available vary according to the type of element selected in zone 1.

5.      This zone provides additional information on the properties shown in zone 4.

6.      These buttons are used to confirm or cancel the graphic options you have defined.  The "Default" button resets all graphic options to their default setting.  The "OK" button confirms any changes you have made and closes the window.  The "Close" button closes the window without taking into account any changes you have made.  The "Apply" button confirms any changes you have made and leaves the window open, thereby allowing you to continue with your graphic option customization.

When a property option has been customized, the property in question appears in bold in zone 4.

The foreground color of attributes has been customized

The further down you go in the list of customizable elements (zone 1), the greater the level of precision in terms of the application of your customized options.  For example, you can define a certain foreground color and font for classes in general, and then continue by defining a different foreground color and font for classes appearing in object diagrams.
