Creating or opening a project

Creating a new project

To create a new project, simply follow the steps shown below.

Creating a new project

Steps:

1.    Click on "File/New".  The "Create a project" window will then appear.

2.    In the "Model root name" field, enter the name of the new project.  By default, the UML model root name is the same as the project file name. Once the model root name has been defined, it cannot be modified.

3.    In the "Project type" field, select the project type of your choice.  Project types are used to preconfigure your Objecteering working environment for specific modeling work.  For more information on project types, please see "Using project types".

4.    In the "Path" field, enter the path of the directory where the new project will be created.  Alternatively, click on the  icon on the right of the field to open a file browser, through which you can define your project path.

5.    Confirm by clicking on "Create the project".

Note:      By default, project files are created and stored in your personal profile.

Model root name and project file name for a new project

When you are creating a new project in the "Create a project" window, a default model root name automatically appears in the "Model root name" field ("UMLProject").

By default, the model root name and the name of the project file are identical, as shown below.

An identical model root name and project file name

If you change the model root name in the "Model root name" field, the project file name in the "Path" field is automatically updated.

Since two project files cannot have the same name, if you try to create a project with the same model root name as an existing project, the associated project file name will be slightly altered.

For example, if you have an existing project whose model root name and project file name is "UMLProject", and you then try to create another project with the model root name "UMLProject", the project file name that appears in the "Path" field will be "UMLProject1" (see below).

Choosing project type for a new project

When you are creating a new project in the "Create a project" window, you have to choose a project type which will be used to preconfigure your Objecteering working environment for specific modeling work.

4 project types are delivered in standard with Objecteering 6.1 SP2:

-      Default: used for standard UML Modeling.

-      Java: used for Java Development.

-      JavaMDAC: used for Java MDA Components development.

-      SOA: used for Service Oriented Architecture modelling.

Choosing a path for a new project

When you are creating a new project in the "Create a project" window, a project file path automatically appears in the "Path" field.  By default, this is the path to your personal profile.

If you change the project file path, either by directly entering a path or by clicking on the  icon on the right of the field to open a file browser, the new path appears in bold, as shown below.

Opening an existing project

To open an existing project, carry out the steps shown below.

Opening an existing project

Steps:

1.    Click on "File/Open".  The "Open" window then appears.  This window automatically opens on your personal profile, as this is where Objecteering project files are stored by default.

2.    Double-click on the project file (".ofp") you want to open.  It will then automatically open in Objecteering Modeler.

You can also simply double-click on the project file in the Windows explorer.  This launches Objecteering and opens the selected project.

Note:      If you click on the arrow on the right of the "File name" field, a dropdown list opens, containing the last ten projects you have opened. You can select the project to open from this list.

Changing project

It is only possible to work on one project at a time.

If you want to change from the project you are working on to another existing project, or if you want to create a new one, simply carry out the following steps:

1.    Click on "File/New" or "File/Open" depending on whether you want to create a new project or open an existing one.  The "New project" or "Open" window then appears.

2.    Enter the relevant information and click on "OK".

3.    A confirmation dialog box then appears, asking you if you want to save the work carried out on the original project.  Click on the "Yes" button.  Your original project is then closed and your new one opened.
