Using project types

What are project types?

Project types are pre-configured project files used to customize a new project during its creation, thereby making it even simpler to start working in a specific modeling context.

When a project type is selected for a new project, the following operations are automatically carried out:

· the MDACs necessary to the new project are automatically deployed and configured

· selected Objecteering Modeler parameters are automatically set to predefined values

Objecteering Modeler is delivered with several project types, each oriented towards a specific work context.

Project types and client-server installations

If you are working as part of a team in a client-server configuration, you have:

· access to standard project types located on the server

· access to personal project types located on your workstation

The project types provided by the server are available to all members of a team, and can be used to methodologically orient the entire team and ensure that the basic working environment is standard across the board.

The project types located on your own workstation are those which you have created yourself for your own personal use and according to your individual preferences.

Creating a project type

To create a new project type, carry out the following steps:

· In the project that is going to become the new project type, deploy and configure the MDACs you want it to contain.

· Continue by configuring the Objecteering Modeler parameters you want the new project type to contain.

· Carry out the operations shown in the screenshot below.

Steps:

1. Click on "File/Save as project type" in the menu bar.  The "Save as" window then appears.

2. In the "Save as" window, enter a name and a location for your new project type.  By default, project types are stored in the "database" directory of your Objecteering installation.

3. Click on "Save" to confirm.

Project types are selected when a new project is being created, as shown in the following screenshot.

Steps:

1. Click on "File/New" in the menu bar, to open the "New project" window.

2. In the "Project type" field, click on the arrow on the right-hand side to open the dropdown list of available project types.   Select the project type of your choice.

3. Click on "Create the project" to confirm.

Note:      As you can see, the project type created earlier is now present in the list of available project types.
