Introduction to Objecteering Dimensions
Overview
The Objecteering Dimensions MDAC has been designed to function with Serena Dimensions 10.1.
The Objecteering Dimensions MDAC is used to configure elements of an Objecteering model, to carry out the most frequently used Dimensions operations and to simplify your work in the domain of configuration management.
The functions of the Objecteering Dimensions MDAC, necessary to configuration management, are accessed through the Objecteering interface.
The Objecteering Dimensions MDAC does not substitute the Dimensions tool. The administration of this tool is not, therefore, available from Objecteering. For example, worksets must be created in the Dimensions interface.
Functions
Using the Objecteering Dimensions MDAC, it is possible to:
· Check-in and/or check-out a model element
· Update the Objecteering model in relation to the Workset
· Run a Diff-Merge operation with another model
· Import/check-out of a revision of an element
Modifying the Control Plan (Process Model)
Before selecting the Objecteering Dimensions MDAC, the Control Plan of the database must be completed, so as to add 3 new types of item:
·
OBJING_EXT: This type corresponds to the items representing the Objecteering
model. If change management is activated on the MDAC, it is assumed to be
active on this type of items.
·
OBJING_CONF: This
item type corresponds to repository configuration files. If change management
is activated on the MDAC, it is assumed to be active on this type of items.
· OBJING_TMP: This item type corresponds to files temporarily versioned. Changes management rules must be disabled for this item type.
The addition of these types is essential in order to the Objecteering Dimensions MDAC to be selected. If this modification is not carried out, Dimensions will display the following message in the Objecteering console, and the MDAC will not be selected:
2217-Error: Item type OBJING_EXT does not exist
To add these types of item, please refer to the Dimensions user documentation.

For this new type, you can define the lifecycle, options, attributes and so on which are necessary to your project.
