Using Objecteering Dimensions
Introduction
When the Objecteering Dimensions MDAC has been selected, it is possible to:
· Export a new Objecteering model into a Dimensions database
· Retrieve an existing model in a Dimensions database
For these two operations, selection of the MDAC obliges you to define:
· The version of Merant Dimensions or Serena Dimensions which is going to be used (10.1), before connecting to the Dimensions database.
· Whether change management must be activated.
Note: The Objecteering Dimensions MDAC can function only with Serena Dimensions 10.1. If you are using another version, it will not be possible to select the MDAC.

For further information on this window, please refer to the Dimensions user documentation.
After connecting to the Dimensions database, the MDAC automatically detects whether or not the model is already archived in this database.
Note: The name of the Objecteering project determines the existence of the model in the Dimensions database.
Creating the UML model in Dimensions
After connecting to the Dimensions database, and if the model has not already been archived in Dimensions, a confirmation dialog box is displayed to confirm the creation of the model in Dimensions.

After this confirmation, the parameters allowing the exchange between Objecteering Modeler and Dimensions must be defined.

Steps:
1. Select the Product. All the elements will be archived in this Product.
2. Select the Design Part. All the elements of the Objecteering model will be archived on this Design Part.
3. Select the Workset. This Workset will be associated with the current Objecteering project. Each Objecteering model can have its own Workset.
4. Select the Variant. By default, its value is "A".
5. Confirm by clicking on "OK".
After this initialization, the entire Objecteering model will be exported to the Dimensions database, and put into read-only mode.
All commands in the Dimensions context menu are now available.
Retrieving an existing model
After connecting to the Dimensions database, and if the model has already been archived on a Design Part of the Dimensions database, an initialization dialog box is displayed to define the Workset to be associated with the Objecteering model, as well as the Variant.

Steps:
1. Select the Workset. This Workset will be associated with the current Objecteering project. Each Objecteering model can have its own Workset.
2. Select the Variant. By default, the value is "A".
3. Confirm by clicking on “OK”.
Note: If the Objecteering model is not empty, a confirmation dialog box will be displayed, indicating that the current model will be deleted.

After this initialization, the entire model will be imported from the Dimensions database to Objecteering Modeler, where it will be put into read-only mode.
